How much Window Film do I Need?
Figuring out how much window film is needed for your particular job is must easier then you think. First you need to know the sizes of your window, review the sizes of window film available, pick which pattern or style you like and finally order the quantity needed. With these simple steps to measure and order your window, you’ll be one step closer to adding privacy or style to your home in no time.
How to Measure for Window Film
The first step to know how much window film you are going to need is to measure the area you want to install window film on. You will simply want to add up the width and height of each glass pane you are installing the film on. Write these measurements down and you can begin to look for a pattern you like.
When measuring you windows you want to add 1 inch each direction to your measures to ensure room for error and cutting during installation. For example if your window is 32” wide, act as if the windows 34” wide when figuring out how much film you need. This is because during installation this overlap allows you to cut the film to the edge of your window.
Window Measurement Examples
Example 1
The glass on our first example window measures 23 inches wide, by 16 inches tall. The window also has a second section of glass that measures 23 inches wide as well, but is 34 inches tall. Because of these measurements I have two size options. I can either purchase film that is 36 inches wide (to fit my tallest height), or 24 inches wide (to fit my largest width). I am interested in the gossamer privacy window film, which is 36 inches wide: perfect width! Since the first pane is 23 inches wide this width works on this glass pane as well. For length, I will need a total of 39 inches or to order 4 feet as this particular film is sold by the foot.
Example 2
This example has a total of 3 windows, all with different sizes. I am interested in installing the white frost privacy window film which comes in widths from 12 inches wide all the way up to 72 inches.
Window 1: 22 inches wide by 27 inches tall
Window 2: 38 inches wide by 42 inches tall
Window 3: 22 inches wide by 54 inches tall
It looks like I’m going to need two different widths for this project. To fit window #1 and #3 I can use 24 inch wide and order 3 yards. To fit window #2 I need a film that is at least 38 inches wide, and since this film comes in 48 inch wide I can order 2 yards.
How to order Window Film
After you have completed your measurements and chosen your window film, its time to order. All window film sold on WindowFilmandMore.com is sold in one continuous roll when more then one is ordered. For example, if you need 6 feet of window film for your project you will order a qty of "6" if the film you have chosen is sold by the foot. If the film you have chosen is sold by the yard, you will order a qty of "2" as this would give a roll of film that is 2 yards long (or 6 feet). Also note that what you order is the minimum we will ship. In some cases, we will send you additional film at no cost to you to ensure that we have provided you with the minimum required.
